Kate Middleton childbirth: how to stay in shape after giving birth

Kate Middleton had a no-epidural drug-free natural childbirth with her new daughter.

The Duchess of Cambridge, had a natural childbirth and delivered her daughter, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, without an epidural or other painkilling drugs. Charlotte weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces at birth.

Middleton delivered her daughter at 8:34 a.m. local time on May 2 at London’s St. Mary’s Hospital, just two and a half hours after going into labour. Kate had Charlotte with the help of two trusted midwives who had previously helped her deliver her son naturally, Prince George.

Middleton did not use an epidural when Prince George was born in July 2013 either. Kate, a long time health and fitness buff, did prenatal yoga, followed a healthy low-carb diet and remained active during both her pregnancies.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 33, posed for photographs outside the hospital just 12 hours after giving birth, looking healthy and happy. Kate was accompanied by her husband, Prince William, who carried their son Prince George in his arms.

Kate’s Post-Baby Weight Loss Due to Low-Carb Diet and Yoga

Less than a day after giving birth, Kate looked as fit and slim as ever. In 2013, Middleton lost the 29 pounds she gained during her first pregnancy just two months after delivery, thanks to a healthy low-carb diet, walking, and running and yoga workouts.

Low carb diets such as the ketogenic, Paleo and Atkins diets fuel rapid weight loss by forcing the body to burn fat for fuel, said obesity expert Dr. Eric Westman.

Kate Middleton’s long-time friend and former college rowing partner Emma Sayle said the duchess worked out and followed a healthy diet while pregnant with George.

“Kate stayed super-fit by running and hitting the gym,” said Sayle. “That helps in bouncing back. Kate loves exercise and did lots of swimming and Pilates while pregnant. It’s really helped her lose weight.”

Weight loss experts said the best way to lose baby weight quickly is to minimize weight gain during pregnancy by not overeating and staying active. Middleton, a former high-school and college athlete, is a long-time fitness fanatic who worked out an hour a day and followed a portion-controlled low-carb diet before getting pregnant.

Sources who have known Middle for years said she has always been naturally careful to never overeat, and became even more disciplined about her diet after marrying Prince William. “Kate’s quite figure-conscious and she’s very aware that the camera adds a good 10 pounds,” said a source. “She is tiny, with no hips.”
